Trek Event: Bhandardara Fireflies Festival And Camping
Bhandardara is a great destination tucked away in the cradle of nature at a distance of 160 km from Mumbai. This beautiful village has some scenic attractions that bring thousands of nature enthusiasts to this place. The beauty of this place only gets amplified in the monsoon season.
Spot The Fire Flies!
While Bhandardara is mainly visited for its tourist attractions like Wilson Dam, Arthur Lake and Randha Falls, there are a bunch of other places and activities around the village that attract both nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Bhandardara also serves as the starting point of the trek to Kalsubai Peak, which is the highest mountain in Maharashtra.
However, the months of May and June have something special for you. While the temperatures are still soaring high and the monsoon hasn’t begun, Bhandardara becomes home to millions of fireflies. These bioluminiscent insects light up during the night time to attract their mate and in the pitch darkness of Bhandardara, away from regular light sources, you’ll be able to see the beauty of nature unfold in front of your eyes!
Several tour companies take tours to this ‘Fireflies Festival’ and give you the opportunity to see entire trees and bushes light up with millions of fireflies! They take you camping in the jungles to witness this natural phenomenon all around you!
The tour starts off from Kasara in a private jeep to make sure that you’re comfortable. Once you reach Bhandardara, you’ll be taken in a boat through the backwaters of the village and in this journey, you’ll be able to see mountains and lush jungles all around!
On reaching the campsite, you will be able to learn and cook your very own barbecue and enjoy the smoky flavors in the cooked food! Post the dinner, you’ll get a chance to see fireflies flying around the campsite. The tour will take you on a trail to spot fireflies all around. If you’re lucky, you may get to see them in thousands!
The camping experience lets you sleep in your very own tents post the tiring walk along the firefly trail. On the next day, you’ll wake up to a beautiful view of the natural surroundings and post breakfast, you will be treated to a few games with fellow campers before departing for Mumbai.
