3. Mix Gola – Jai Jawan Stall
Age is no bar for enjoying a gola, especially at Girgaon Chowpatty. Jai Jawan is popular for its variety of colourful golas. The Mix Gola is a treat for the eyes with vibrant colours of red, green and yellow, and it tastes equally delectable. It is highly recommended if you are looking for something to beat the heat of Mumbai at Girgaon Chowpatty.
- Price: About ₹ 100
- Rating: 4.4/5
- Other Great Dishes: Falooda Kulfi
4. Mango Kulfi – Navrangi
Another great place at Girgaon Chowpatty to enjoy some delicious Kulfi. We would recommend tasting the Mango Kulfi, which is one of the best at Chowpatty. The creamy texture of the Mango Kulfi along with the perfect amount of sweetness makes it a perfect dessert to indulge in after some spicy food.
- Price: About ₹ 100
- Rating: 4.3/5
- Other Great Dishes: Malai Kulfi, Mix Kulfi
5. Malai Kulfi with Rabdi – Kapoor Punjabi Kulfi
If heaven had a taste, it would taste like this rabdi. Absolutely delightful, rich and thick. The rabdi has been expertly cooked till it’s perfectly done without any charring or burning. The sweetness of the rabdi and the kulfi do not overwhelm, and instead work beautifully together. The cherry on the top of this entire experience is the humble staff that serves the food. This is truly a gem of a place.
- Price: ₹ 90.00
- Rating: 4/5
- Other Great Dishes Here: Kesara Pista Kulfi
6. Pani Puri – Badshah Pani Puri
The Pani Puri at Badshah Pani Puri is the street food version of fighting a fire breathing dragon. We don’t know why we love it so much, but by God we do! The sweet-spicy mix version will set your mouth afire, the only spicy version will take you to hell and leave you in pools of magma. Despite all this, there is an irresistible urge to go back and have more, call it what you will, we call it good flavor. The well-boiled chana is steeped in beautiful flavors and the water is spicy, but has undertones of various mixed tastes. This is pani puri done right.
- Price: ₹ 25.00
- Rating: 4/5
7. Bhel Puri – Bhim Singh Cold Filter Puri
There are very few street food dishes that can make you feel like you were home, and this one did just that. There is a huggable quality to the dish that we simply couldn’t put our finger on. None of the flavors are overwhelming, they work well together to form a mildly flavorsome, mildly spicy, a little sweet, a little sour bhel puri that we just loved. The puffed rice has taken in the flavors well and is something that everyone would enjoy. This is the kind of dish the entire family can enjoy.
- Price: ₹ 40.00
- Rating: 3.5/5
- Other Great Dishes Here: Pav Bhaji
8. Veg Hakka Noodles – Punjabi Pav Bhaji Snacks Corner
We Indians have taken Chinese cuisine and turned it into a sort of street art. Right from the preparation of the dish to the final garnish, there is a flair to the entire process. The noodles are fiery, oily and flavorful, everything one would expect from a street side Hakka Noodles counter. The garlic sauce gives it a much needed zest. This is what you get when Chinese cuisine meets Indian street vendors. It’s a beautiful testimony to our creativity.
- Price: ₹ 130.00
- Rating: 3/5
- Other Great Dishes Here: Pav Bhaji
9. Kacchi Kairy Ice Gola – Daddy’s Cool Corner
After the last two spicy dishes, we needed something that wouldn’t punish our tongues and give us respite from the heat, both from the sun and the previously had flavors. The Ice Gola did just that. The sweet and sour flavors work well, keeping the rather simple gola interesting. You also have the option of customizing the flavors on the gola. The only thing missing is a little bit of chat masala to go with it.
- Price: ₹ 40.00
- Rating: 3/5
10. Masala Dosa – Shetty’s Pav Bhaji
The overall experience of the dish is quite blasé. There are salty undertones in the masala and the white chutney has a watery consistency that would leave any true blood south Indian extremely disappointed. The sambar accompanying it is simply not up to par. The dish is an okay on the go hunger solution, but other than that, there’s not much to it that stands up to scrutiny.
- Price: ₹ 60.00
- Rating: 2.5/5
- Other Great Dishes Here: Mysore Masala Dosa
11. Dahi Sev Papdi Chat – Sharmajee’s
We were initially given a dish with very sour curd, but when pointed out, the dish was promptly replaced. The next dish had the fresh curd but was lacking in flavor. All the individual elements are well done. However, they simply haven’t mixed well enough together. For a place that is as famous and well-loved as it is, we can’t help but think that we were the unfortunate few who did not get a good dish.
- Price: ₹ 60.00
- Rating: 2.5/5
- Other Great Dishes Here: Pav Bhaji
12. Pav Bhaji – Famous Pav Bhaji
Once again, a dish that is nearly a hit, but near hits don’t win medals and it is what it is. The pav is soft and passably fresh. The bhaji topped with butter, is flavorsome but doesn’t evoke any spectacular tastes. There is an overt tanginess due to the gratuitous use of tomatoes. Undercutting all that is excess salt. It’s a passable dish but we wouldn’t pay the same price.
- Price: ₹ 80.00
- Rating: 2.5/5
- Other Great Dishes Here: Khada Pav
13. Mixed Dry Fruit Kulfi with Rabdi – Jai Jawan Stall
We started with kulfi, so we shall end with it as well. The first kulfi was absolutely delectable, so this one had huge shoes to fill. And fill them it did, with a cornucopia of dry fruits; rich, thick, rabdi and creamy kulfi. However, the dry fruits can be overwhelming to some as they mask the creamy flavors of the kulfi and the rabdi. One can order it with lesser dry fruits, we’re sure the owner wouldn’t mind that. Overall, a great dish and a sweet way to end the list.
